Sheringham is a traditional English Seaside Town having grown up around its fishing community. The local fishermen were major suppliers of crabs and lobster to the London fish markets; a few little boats still bring in the daily catch. Sheringham is home to the Steam Railway line The North Norfolk Railway; the Poppy Line operates rides to the nearby town of Holt. Sea, Beaches, Cliffs and Promenade are some of the reasons why Sheringham is so popular.

Sheringham’s buildings are of particular interest being built using flint. Sheringham town centre is a traditional high street with a variety of privately owned specialist shops, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. There is a popular twice weekly market on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s. Among the splendour of the area are the surrounding woods of Upper Sheringham (including Sheringham Park), with views over the sea, and miles of bracken-covered undulating uplands, covered with golden gorse and purple heather. An annual Cromer and Sheringham Crab/Lobster festival is held in May, and the town’s Carnival is held at the beginning of August. Sheringham is an ideal base for a seaside family holiday or weekend break.
